SUMMARY:Friday Finds - Sew\, Snip\, Tie: Early American Children's Blank Books
DESCRIPTION:Rescheduled to November 6\, 2020. 12:00 pm. \n\nWhile
commercially-made blank books were available in bookstores and general
stores in the early American republic\, children often made simple books
from scrap wallpaper (and other decorative papers) to copy lines from
school books and to gather together their juvenile writings. Professor
Jessica Linker\, Northeastern University\, will teach participants how to
sew a three-hole pamphlet binding as a way of thinking through children's
material culture of reading in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth
centuries. Participants will use historical examples from Bryn Mawr's
collections to practice copying.\n\nParticipants wll find a list of
 materials they will need at
 https://specialcollections.blogs.brynmawr.edu/2020/10/22/materials-for-the-friday-finds-workshop-sew-snip-tie-early-american-childrens-blank-books/.
These are easy to collect from your everyday possessions. On campus
participants who want to pick up paper\, needle\, or thread should write
Marianne Hansen at mhansen@brynmawr.edu by Wedensday. We can provide those
 items.
