Practical Geographic Information Systems (GIS): Session 3 - Obtaining maps and creating a Digital Elevation Model Online
This workshop is the third in a series of four sessions aimed towards promoting the use of Geographic Imaging Systems (GIS) in the Arts and Sciences.
In this workshop we will focus on the open-source, completely free GIS application QGIS and learn some of the most basic GIS tools so you can make your maps better.
Session 3 will review some basic map types that one can use in a GIS. We will learn how to obtaining various open source maps and satellite imagery for free through the use of QGIS plugins and online databases. We will then use some of these maps to create a Digital Elevation Model (DEM).
