Classical Languages Toolkit (CLTK) Community of Learning In-Person

Do you study a classical language? Have you ever wondered whether you can teach your computer to read Greek, to match a particular speech pattern across Plato's dialogues or to analyze prose rhythms across Latin authors? If so, you may be interested in learning how to use the Classical Languages Toolkit (CLTK).

The CLTK is the leading platform for building Python programs to work with classical language data. It offers natural language processing (NLP) support for the languages of Ancient, Classical, and Medieval Eurasia. Greek, Latin, Akkadian, and the Germanic languages are currently most complete.

This semester, a group will be meeting weekly on Fridays, from 2-3 PM in which participants will learn and explore the CLTK together. At our first meeting, we will get everything installed and running as well as gauge where our individual research interests overlap. In the future meetings, we will run through the CLTK tutorials together and test out the functionality of the program in ways that will address everyone's personal learning goals.

No prior knowledge of CLTK or Python code is necessary; however, be aware that a Python community of learning is being held concurrently on Wednesdays, 3-4 PM, beginning February 12th in the Carpenter Digital Media and Collaboration Lab.
