Food and Feedback Lunch Series featuring Susanna Fioratta
The Food and Feedback Lunch Series provides faculty with an informal environment to solicit feedback and assistance on their current research.
Join us as Susanna Fioratta discusses “The People are to Blame!” Puzzling over National Self-Critique in Guinea. People in the West African Republic of Guinea often use language of self-blame when they discuss national problems like corruption, poverty, or underdevelopment. Why do people blame themselves, instead of (or sometimes, in addition to) the past or current government, the legacy of colonialism, the dubious terms of international lending programs, or the increasing restrictions on African migrants to Europe and North America? And how can these expressions of collective self-blame be productively theorized? This talk will share some examples and invite feedback on the problem of self-blame.
Bring your lunch. We will supply the coffee, tea and cookies.
