Tech Talk: Building a Course with Emerging Technologies In-Person

This semester, Educational Technology Services staff is offering a Praxis Fieldwork Seminar on Exploring Museum Applications of Augmented and Virtual Reality. The classroom component of the course focuses on how digital technologies are shaping the work of museums and other cultural institutions and the scholarship of museum studies. This is complemented by a hands-on fieldwork component in which students work with AR/VR tools to design their own exhibit, installation or app. In this Tech Talk, Jenny Spohrer (Director of Educational Technology Services), Kelly Strunk (Associate Director, Praxis), and Palak Bhandari (Educational Technologist) will discuss why they wanted to build a project-based course around such new, emerging technologies and their process for and the challenges of conceptualizing, designing, and facilitating it, and students from the course will share their experiences. This Tech Talk may be of interest for anyone designing an experiential learning course, particularly one involving tools that require considerable technical expertise. It may be especially relevant for those considering submitting an application for a LITS Digital Bryn Mawr Seed Grant (deadline April 15).
