RESCHEDULED: Friday Finds: [Voicings] and Choral Aesthetics

RESCHEDULED: Friday Finds: [Voicings] and Choral Aesthetics In-Person

Join curator and History of Art PhD Candidate, Laurel V. McLaughlin, for an informal conversation about the resonances of Bryn Mawr's current exhibition, Bethany Collins: Tempest with an exhibition she recently organized at Artspace New Haven. That exhibition [Voicings] wonders about the conditions, capacities, and powers of voices to utter sounds, words, and signs. McLaughlin will also share new research for a project focused on what she calls "choral aesthetics," drawn from conversations with contemporary artists, art historical research, and her personal and professional experiences in vocal studies.

[Voicings] is on view at Artspace New Haven through April 15, 2023. It features the work of Mira Dayal, Dominique Duroseau, JJJJJerome Ellis, Nikita Gale, Gordon Hall, Amiko Li, Matt Keegan, Christine Sun Kim, Joseph Keckler, and Sahra Motalebi.

Laurel V. McLaughlin is a writer, curator, and art historian, currently completing her doctorate in the History of Art at Bryn Mawr College. She has published reviews, articles, and interviews in Art Papers, ASAP/J, BOMB Magazine, The Brooklyn Rail, Performa Magazine, Contact Quarterly, Performance ResearchPARtakete magazine, and Antennae, and has forthcoming work in the journal Women & Performance and the edited volumes Being in Contact: Encountering a Bare Body, and Borders of Art: Migration, Mobility, and Artistic Practice, in addition to an interdisciplinary volume she is co-editing with Carrie Robbins on the practice of Tania El Khoury with Amherst College Press. She has curated exhibitions engaging border pedagogies, migratory aesthetics, queer object relations, and ritual at institutions ranging from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, to Artspace New Haven in collaboration with Yale University Art Gallery, and the Usdan Gallery of Bennington College, Lafayette College Art Galleries, and the Center for Contemporary Art & Culture, among others.
