Tech Talk: Photogrammetry for Teaching and Research In-Person
Photogrammetry turns photographs from flat to 3D, allowing for accurate measurement and analysis of objects and sites even when they are not physically accessible. In this Tech Talk, faculty member Caroline VanSickle (Anthropology) and graduate students Sarah Luckey and Matthew Jameson (GSAS) will give an overview of their experience learning photogrammetry and applying it to various contexts. They will explain how photogrammetry works, and spend time discussing applications in anthropology, archaeology, and Cultural Heritage. Matt and Sarah will also show some examples using objects from Special Collections, which will be displayed in an upcoming exhibition entitled: Fragmentary Excess: Body, Text, Receptacle.
This Tech Talk will be of particular interest to anyone working in collections documentation and research; conservation and preservation professionals who work with physical material; archaeologists, anthropologists, classicists, epigraphers, historians, and natural scientists; and anyone with an interest in 3D content development. This event is open to the public. Registration is appreciated but not required; refreshments will be provided!
